SO I am finally coming to join the world a bit more these days. It is very difficult to find the right words lately. I usually am full of them. Since Mom passed away I got mainly nothing. My Love, Crocheting and a great support team is helping through my grief.

Seeing that I am basically wordless I will let you see that my April was full of yarny goodness

Rail Station

Just this past Friday I decided I needed quality me time. So I headed to the Elmwood Village and Canalside in Buffalo, NY.
My 1st stop was at Ashker’s (http://www.ashkers.com/)
Upbeet I tried their Upbeet (Beet, Apple, Carrot and Celery)and an Egg White Vegetable Omelet. I highly recommend both!!
2nd Stop was Caffe Aroma where I deviated form my usual Iced Coffee or Macchiato. Instead I went for the Cappuccino and am not sorry for the decision. This cappuccino was spot on and I informed the barista as such!
3rd Stop was Karma Salon on a spur of the moment I decided I needed a haircut. I Yelped on my phone and Ta Da:

My super cute short summer do!

4th Stop was Everything Elmwood (http://www.everythingelmwood.org/). It was here that I purchased these cute notebooks and a couple of cards (that since have been mailed…oops forgot to take pictures)

Years ago I use to write poetry. I have been missing it of late. Thinking this is the perfect motivation to start again.

5th stop was a spice store. I ended up with a Salt Free all purpose seasoning, Cilantro, Hungarian Paprika and Orange Peel (thinking that the latter will make a fabulous Orange infused simple syrup for Iced Coffee).
6th Stop was Lexington Coop (http://lexington.coop/). I figured can not go Canalside with out something to drink and a snack. Plus it is always a fun shopping experience. Wish we had other Coop’s locally.
7th Stop was Pearl Street Grill (http://buffalobrewerydistrict.com/pearl/node/29). I noticed the time and thought hmmm not too early for a Iced Cold Beer. I actually allowed the waiter to decide for me. All I told him was that I did not like IPA’s and was thinking something fruity. I ended up with a BlueEyed Blueberry Blonde. I enjoyed it though not something I will go out of my way for. I also had the Wild Mushroom flatbread. I was not sure what to expect but was just thrilled it contained marinaded mushrooms. It was Yummers!!
8th Stop was Canalside (http://www.canalsidebuffalo.com/). They offer something for everyone. From activities for children to concerts and an Artist Market.
9th Stop was Talking Leaves Bookstore (http://www.tleavesbooks.com/). I picked up a book of poetry and a book by an author that is new to me.

Final stop was back to at Ashker’s. I picked up their Hummus & Garden Veggie Wrap. This was delicious. It was so big that I had half for dinner and finished the other half the next day (everything was still crisp). Oh and not to mention 2 more Upbeets! Apparently I have developed an Upbeet problem…lol
Well I see this is my longest post yet! Hope you enjoyed.

Sewing has taken a back seat as of late. I have been so focused on crocheting that I almost forgot about sewing. I woke up this morning itching to plan a sewing project. So off I went to visit my fabric stash.  I am going to make a bag of sorts that will help contain my yarn stash.
I also am going to make an apron for a customer. This excites me and also stresses me. It is for the woman I made the Piggy Toy Bag for. I am under no time constraint….Just my own. This has been months in planning as we chose a fabric that had not yet been released. Well finally it was released and I found it on sale!!!
I have been taking pictures like crazy lately. 4th of July, A sunset and a trip to a nature preserve. I will post pictures later in the week.
I am attending my first Reading Invasion tomorrow and an so excited!!!!
Have a Beautiful Monday!!!

So last night I decided to take a break from my electronics (ie: phone, kindle and lap top) due to the recent flare of a chronic condition. I was reading a book when the idea for a baby mat came to me. So off I was measuring and cutting. Stubborn me because cutting should have been a No No as well. At the end of  the night I had cut 2 pieces of fabric and a piece of batting. Today after work I pinned the three layers and sewed them on 3 sides. On the 4th side I left an open to reverse it. I did a top stitch around the entire thing. I wash and dried it to see….the batting bunches in the middle but flattens with smoothing. Seems quite possible that I missed sewing the batting when I was closing it up. Needless to say it is not up to my standards so I am hesitant to post a picture. I can’t be too unhappy as I am gifting  it to a co worker who is expecting in April. I shall try this again after going back to the creativity board.

*I suffer from Chronic Neck Pain due to a car accident and also have an ankle issue that causes severe pain from time to time. I think I am having a flare up due to the Wolf Blanket (an hour of continuous sewing…my foot was not happy with the vibration). I try not to let it stop me though.

I was on Fiskars website the other night and came across instructions for making a comfort pillow. It seemed simple enough so I figured why not. Boy was I wrong…every thing was great until I went to sew it after filling with flax seed. The dang fabric would not move. So I ended up finishing this one with a couple of rows of stitches and a pair of pinking shears.

image

I made a second one. As you can see this one I finished a bit differently.

I made these as I was looking for a gift for someone and thought this would be perfect her being a runner.  I feel that the second one is not full enough ( I ran out of flax seed) So I will keep it for myself. It seems to appears to be the perfect size to use for alleviating both menstrual cramps and the neck pain I get plagued with!

While at Hobby Lobby this weekend I picked up 2 yards of this fleece. My Love had requested a blanket. Easy. Sure. I got this.
This is now day 2 of the blanket project.
Let’s recap
Day 1: upper thread brakes twice, lower thread brakes once, stitching gets wonky, wonky stitches removed, stitches go wonky (again), stitches removed (again).
Day 2: rethreading machine, start with new needle, realize the problem is the selected stitch, change stitches (I will fix it so no one will tell), realize I can not hide the stitches and be happy with how it looks, cut off all sewing that took place thus far. So now I have slightly under 2 yards of fabric and will start again tomorrow.
Despite all this I am enjoying myself.

I finally caught the cold that has been plaguing my community. This happened last Thursday. By Friday night I was miserable…it totally hit me like a brick wall. With so many plans for the weekend I tried numerous remedies. Tea,  Sudafed and Afrin gave absolutely zero relieve. I increased my water intake as I was feeling dehydrated…this helped a bit. The cinnamon honey remedy helped minimally. I finally located local raw honey and have been taking 2-3 teaspoons a day. I feel this has helped the most. My sense of taste and sense of smell are hit and miss. I heard/felt my stomach growl so coffee in hand I headed to the kitchen.
What to make? Banana Pancakes….2 ingredient pancakes. Truth be told I NEVER make pancakes (this is My Love’s  fortay). The only reason these popped in my head is that a co worker told me how her family likes them. So that settled that and off I went. These where very easily made. They were ok. I did not add the baking powder as many reviews suggested. I would definitely put the bp in next time because they kind tasted like banana eggs.
I took a PTO day today to get the rest  ( lol ) I need to continue to get better. In my efforts to rest I have put corned beef in the cockpot, have boneless chicken breast marinating, made a pot of Starbucks Breakfast Blend and turned on my iron to continue working on my current sewing project. I am so excited by what I am currently making I can barely contain my enthusiasm. I am hoping to complete the project today.
I also decided that for the month of March ever day I will take at least one picture of something. I will start posting these pictures every Wednesday!!!

My Third tattoo: 2 Days Ago. Yes that means that I spent time at a tattoo shop on Valentine’s Day. I try to be creative on Friday’s. My Love and I did separate things that day…which was okay with us. In fact he wasn’t all that surprised that I did it. It response was more all the lines : Of course you go a tattoo why wouldn’t you!!?! And then he saw where and thought I completely nuts! It was a total challenge for me! I have realized that I am stronger and tougher than I thought!

My Second tattoo: 2 Years Old

Image

My first tattoo: Almost 6 years old (and apparently in dire need of a recolor)

Last week I was Googling  and came across

https://www.google.com/search?q=Super+Secret+Cookie+Dough&rlz=1C1EODB_enUS532US532&oq=Super+Secret+Cookie+Dough&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60j69i61.6905j0j7&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8

Wow was I surprised on how much I liked it…in fact I made it twice.

Today I decided to create my own and here is the result of that fun time in the kitchen today:

Image

1 can Garbanzo beans

2 packets of Justin’s Almond Butter

1/8 teaspoon  Sea Salt

3 Tablespoons Agave

1/2 teaspoon Pure Almond Extract         * Next time I would reduce to 1/4 teaspoon

1 1/2 tsp Pure Vanilla                             * Next time I would increase to 1 3/4 teaspoon

1 Tablespoon Vanilla Almond Milk

1/3 Cup Chocolate Chunks

Image

Remove skins from the beans

Image

Put them in food processor and pulse until fine in texture

Image

add all remaining ingredients  minus the chocolate chunks into food processor

Image

Pulse until well blended

Image

Transfer to a bowl and mix in the chocolate chunks (more or less to taste)

After I put this in the fridge to chill for an hour I made a cup of tea. In fact it is the tea that helped inspire this recipe. It is one of my top favorite teas. I got the remainder of my  inspiration from a friend that thought almond butter would be a great addition.

Almond Ode To Joy Tea

Nothing left to do but pour a spot of tea and try my cookie dough…….I was pleasantly happy as it is reminiscent of an Almond Danish Ring. I will certainly make this again!!!

I have been quiet for a bit…never fail I am back! Life has been crazy lately and that nuttiness is finally dying down. This past week I made a quilted apron (picture will be posted as soon as I remember where the cable is for my camera…lol), lilac solid perfume, 2 kinds of cookies and have started brainstorming fundraising ideas.

More on the fundraising: My charity of choice is JDRF . My best friend,s youngest daughter was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 5 she is now 17. She asked us last spring if we could do the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. Of course we all said yes. So we all scrambled to raise money in 6 weeks

. Well this year I am trying to get an early start however I am in a quandary: I am  not very comfortable hounding people to donate but it is such a good cause. Last year I made Toddler Pillows and donated all the money I made toward the walk. This year I decided again that making something to sell would be the best option for me. Here is where I am stuck…I am thinking of such things as Potholders, Sunglasses case, Pattern Weights (which could double as bean bag toys for toddlers), Stethoscope covers. I thought that something unisex would be best but the question is what? I am open to suggestions.

My next sewing projects include  coupon organizer, infinity scarf for my nephew’s fiancée, fleece pants for My Love. I am trying to teach myself to crochet, tatting, perfect the solid perfume making and recently joined my favorite author’s Street Team. Which reminds me that I plan on including book reviews/thoughts into my blog. Oops almost forgot I will be meeting my favorite author Heather Wardell this spring to say I am excited is putting it mildly. I will be posting my New Years Resolutions soon. Stay tuned to see what fun things I have planned for 2014.

One more thing before I go. Today the mailman arrived with an unexpected package inside was a beautiful diamond ring I will also be picking up the Anniversary Band that My Love purchased for me in a  matter of a few days. If there is interest I would be more than happy to share pictures of these gorgeous rings with you…just let me know!
